Hibernian have continued their preparations for the upcoming Premiership season with an impressive 2-1 friendly win over a star-studded Arsenal side.
The Edinburgh side went 2-0 up against Mikel Arteta’s men in front of just under 2,000 fans at Easter Road on Tuesday night.
A Martin Boyle strike on the 21st minute, after a disastrous mix-up between the defender and goalkeeper, put them one up before substitute Daniel McKay put them two ahead with his first touch on the hour mark.
Kevin Nisbet returned for the home side after playing at the European Championships, and started alongside Scott Allen.
And Lewis Stevenson, now in his 16th season with Hibs, was named man of the match for an impressive performance at left-back.
The Gunners’ Euro 2020 stars, including Scotland’s Kieran Tierney and England’s Bukayo Saka, were missing, however captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started and several other first team players including Willian, Lacazette and Hector Bellerin all made an appearance.
Nicolas Pepe, who the English Premier League side signed for around £70m, had a penalty saved from 23-year-old keeper Kevin Dabrowski.
And highly-rated youngster Emile Smith-Rowe, who has been linked with a high-profile move away from Arsenal this summer, scored a late goal for the visitors to make it 2-1.
Hibs kick-off their Premiership season away to Motherwell on August 1.
