Ryan Porteous is set for talks with Watford after Hibernian accepted a bid of around £500,000 for the defender.
The 23-year-old Scotland international is travelling south on Thursday to discuss personal terms with the English Championship side.
Porteous is out of contract in the summer and has been strongly linked with a move away from Easter Road this month with Serie A side Udinese amongst potential suitors.
Hibs have accepted the offer but want a replacement is brought in before the deal is completed.
The club is closing in on landing a central defender before Saturday’s match against Aberdeen.
But if no deal is in place in time for the Premiership clash then Porteous will remain part of Lee Johnson’s squad for the weekend.
The Easter Road side are currently sixth in the Premiership and were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by city rivals Hearts last weekend, leaving Johnson under pressure as he tries to turn it around.
Porteous made his international debut in Scotland’s Nations League draw against Ukraine in Poland last year.
Watford are currently in third place in the English Championship.
