Police are investigating after an image was circulated on social media of a football fan appearing to point a bladed weapon towards the Celtic board during the club’s match against Dundee United.

The Hoops suffered their fourth defeat in a row under new boss Wilfried Nancy after the Tangerines came from behind to win 2-1 at Tannadice on Wednesday.

The relationship between the Glasgow side’s board and a section of the fans has become fractured in recent weeks, with the club’s AGM being adjourned prematurely and chairman Peter Lawwell stepping down, citing alarming threats and abuse as the reason for his decision.

During Wednesday’s match, away fans unfurled flags directed at the board.

An image circulating online appears to show a hooded individual in the away section leaning over a line of police officers and pointing a bladed weapon towards the Celtic board members, including Michael Nicholson, Chris McKay and Brian Taylor, in the padded seats.

Police Scotland has confirmed they are investigating the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of an image circulating on social media that appears to show a supporter at the Dundee United v Celtic game on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 holding a bladed weapon.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are working with both clubs to identify this individual.”

Dundee United has been contacted for comment.
