Ipswich Town striker George Hirst will join the Scotland squad on Monday after receiving clearance to switch his international allegiance.

The 26-year-old, who had played for England at youth level, qualifies for Scotland through his family.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke was unable to include Hirst in the squad he announced last week ahead of the double-header against Greece but the paperwork for the forward has now been completed and he is available for selection.

The Scottish FA confirmed Hirst’s call-up on Sunday evening and the player said he “can’t wait to meet up with the boys”.

Hirst will now compete with Che Adams, Tommy Conway, Kevin Nisbet and James Wilson for a spot in the team as Scotland I’m to see off Greece and retain their place in the top tier of the Nations League. They travel to Athens for Thursday’s first leg before returning to Glasgow for the second match on Sunday evening.

Hirst, son of former Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday striker David, has been at Ipswich since 2023 and has played in 17 Premiership games this season, scoring twice.
