Rangers stopper Jack Butland has said he is “eager and willing” to extending his current contract with the club.

Butland, who moved to Ibrox as a free agent in the summer of 2023, will enter the final 12 months of his four-year deal this summer.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership meeting with St Mirren, the 33-year-old said there has been no official discussion about his contract extension but insisted he is keen to remain a Rangers player.

“It’s something that’s been spoken about at times”, he said. “I’ve obviously been very eager and open to extending that.

“I love the challenge, I love everything about it. I love the way the club has received me and my family, as well as the fan base.

“It’s something that starts to creep into your mind when you get towards the end of a contract.

“But for me, it’s performance-driven. I’m hoping to finish the season really, really strong and would love to extend that. If it’s not something that’s happening, I’m still going to do my best to the very end.”

After two disappointing results against Celtic, Rangers now turn their focus to their league campaign.

Butland has said that the title race is still “close” and said the his side is fully focused on the last nine games of the season.

“With the opportunity, within a couple of weekends, best case scenario, you could be right at the end, you could be sat at the top”, he added.

“That’s how close it still is. So there’s definitely not a feeling that things are out of reach or that we’re not capable.

“I look around the squad and I see people, I see a lot of energy and I see a lot of players who are really excited for the last nine games of the season.”
