The on-loan winger has made just six appearances this season.

Jair Tavares is desperate to get more game time for Motherwell after making his first start in Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat by Dundee.

The on-loan Hibernian winger had been restricted to just five substitute appearances in his first three months at Fir Park.

However, the Portuguese was a surprise starter at right wing-back for the trip to Dens Park as Stuart Kettlewell rang the changes following the 3-0 home defeat by Tavares’ parent club last weekend.

“That (wing-back) is not my usual position but I was just happy to be on the pitch,” Tavares said.

“I haven’t been playing for long, that was my first game in the starting 11 and I’m just happy to be out there on the pitch and get more minutes. That’s the only thing I’m focused on.

“I’ve been working very hard to get my opportunities, so I just have to keep working hard and hopefully more opportunities will come.”

Despite his lack of game time, Tavares – who was out of favour at Hibs after two years with the Edinburgh club – is happy at Motherwell.

“It’s a great changing room, great team, great lads, great staff. I’m loving it,” he said.

Motherwell slipped from fifth to sixth in the William Hill Premiership after suffering a third defeat in a row at Dundee, but Tavares is confident they can get back on track away to St Mirren on Saturday.

“We had a very, very good start, I think no-one would expect that Motherwell would have a start like this this season,” said Tavares.

“There’s three games that we don’t win in a row, but I believe we bounce back. We just have to stick together, stick to the plan every week, and we will bounce back.

“In my opinion it was never a 4-1 game but it’s gone now. We just have to focus now on Saturday because we have a big game coming up.”
