Celtic winger James Forrest believes the arrival of Brendan Rodgers can help him and the team kick on again and build on the success achieved under Ange Postecoglou.

Forrest is looking to make an impact again under Rodgers after winning seven of his 22 major honours during the Northern Irishman’s first spell in charge.

Ahead of Saturday’s cinch Premiership opener against Ross County, the 32-year-old said: “I just think he is different to other managers that I have had.

“I have had really good managers in the past, but he makes you feel really good about yourself. And, tactically, he’s really good as well.

“I think the younger players will really benefit from having the manager. I know it myself and I know loads of boys in the past who have said the same.

“So I think it’s great for the team to kick on again because, obviously, the last couple of years have been really successful.”

Celtic warmed up for their league opener with a 3-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Forrest’s testimonial match on Tuesday night.

Forrest captained the team and got the acclaim of 43,447 fans inside Celtic Park. Although he is not usually someone who seeks the limelight or attention, the Scotland international savoured the occasion.

“I thought in the couple of days before that I’d be buzzing once it was finished but once I got to the stadium I really enjoyed it,” he said.

“It was a great night and a great experience. Once I got off the bus, I really enjoyed the next few hours and I wasn’t expecting that, to be honest.

“The fans are always incredible everywhere you go and you saw that the other night. I always think it’s good for the new signings to see nights like that. It makes them adapt quick. But I really enjoyed the night.”

Forrest will be back in the spotlight ahead of kick-off on Saturday after being asked by the club to unfurl the Premiership flag in the traditional ceremony for the champions ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s a great honour and great to be asked,” he said. “It’s another thing I can look back on and say that I have done it.”
