St Mirren’s new signing Jayden Richardson says he can’t wait to get started in Paisley and aims to bring “electricity and fire” to the right-back position.
Richardson signed a two-year deal with the Buddies this week and returns to Scottish football three years after a spell at Aberdeen.
The 24-year-old has been brought in to fill the slot left by Ryan Alebiosu and Saints manager Stephen Robinson believes he fits the profile that’s needed to succeed.
Richardson said that conversations with his new boss, and the clarity around what’s expected, had helped sell him on the move.
“Obviously for every player it’s key to know what the manager wants and how he wants to play,” he told STV.
“For me, it fits me and suits me and the conversations we have had have been great and I just can’t wait to play for him.
“It aligned with my goals and what I want to achieve personally and hopefully I can do that.”
The full-back has arrived in Paisley in time for the start of pre-season but he is eagerly anticipating competitive football and a chance to show the St Mirren fans what he can bring.
“On the pitch they should expect to see electricity and fire, and for me to be up and down,” he said. “Nothing less.
“I can’t wait to get to the stadium, get [the fans] behind us and give them something to cheer about.
“Scottish football is amazing and a big part of that is the fans. Fans create the football and we would be nothing without them.
“St Mirren have good fans and I can’t wait to play in front of them.”
