Versatile Jeffrey Schlupp has told Brendan Rodgers he is ready to play anywhere he needs him after joining Celtic on loan from Crystal Palace.
The 32-year-old Ghana international was recruited on a deal until the end of this season primarily to provide competition and cover for Greg Taylor at left-back.
However, Schlupp is happy to fill in wherever required by boss Rodgers as the Hoops, who have a Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich to look forward to, chase a domestic treble.
“Throughout my career, I think I’ve played everywhere apart from goalkeeper, but for the main part, I’ve always been sort of left-sided,” he said in an interview with Celtic TV.
“So whether that’s left midfield, left side of a midfield three, I’ve played in a pivot before and obviously I’ve had a lot of games at left-back as well, so anywhere along the left, I’ve always felt really comfortable.
“I’ve played many games at left-back, many games sort of in a left number eight position. And obviously in a front three, I’ve played on the left side and right side as well.
“But I’m comfortable playing anywhere, so wherever the manager would like me to play, I’ll do that, and hopefully I can do a great job for the team.”
Schlupp revealed how memories of playing in a pre-season friendly for former club Leicester at Celtic Park in 2016, just months after they had won the Premier League, helped add to the appeal of joining the Hoops.
“I had the pleasure of playing here in a pre-season match, so I’ve actually been to the stadium before and then obviously the atmosphere and everything about it was something that was really exciting,” he said. “So as soon as the opportunity came up, I was really excited about it.
“Everyone obviously speaks about the experience of playing at Celtic, the atmosphere, the fans and obviously the stadium as you’re driving up to the stadium, it’s one of those things that everyone wants to do.
“So as soon as we found out we were playing against Celtic in that tournament, it was obviously exciting for everyone. So you see the atmosphere, you see all the fans outside when we’re coming on the bus and then obviously playing in front of the fans was great. So yeah, it was a really good day.”
