Jim Goodwin admits Dundee United have to improve their possession game when they open up their Premiership campaign away to Falkirk on Sunday.
The Terrors moved through to the Conference League third qualifier against Austrian side Rapid Vienna with a 2-0 aggregate win over UNA Strassen in Luxembourg on Thursday night.
A second-half header from Moldova defender Iurie Iovu – his first for the Tayside club – gave the unconvincing visitors a narrow 1-0 win but Goodwin admitted some flaws in the performances in both legs which will need to be rectified against the Bairns.
The Tannadice boss told the club’s official X account: “These ties are never straightforward, but I think the fact that we’ve been able to keep two clean sheets was really important.
“Defensively, the back three and the goalkeeper again, were excellent.
“They’ve played right through pre-season there and haven’t conceded a goal when the four of them have played, which is important.
“But we know we have to do better in possession. That’s the bottom line.
“I think against better teams, if you turn over possession as cheaply as what we did, you’ll get punished, and that’s against Falkirk on Sunday and against Rapid Vienna next week.”
