Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is banking on their Boxing Day debacle at Rugby Park being the low point of their season as he insisted they would learn from the 4-0 defeat to Kilmarnock.
Thelin labelled his side “too soft” and declared their performance unacceptable as they went a seventh game without victory.
Aberdeen’s 13-game winning run is becoming a distant memory and Dundee United have the chance to cut the gap on the third-placed Dons to three points when the teams meet at Tannadice on Sunday.
But Thelin hopes some self-reflection can get his players back on track.
“How we competed, that can’t ever happen again,” the Swede told RedTV.
“It was not OK. I hope that was the rock bottom and it can never happen again. Now we have to reload and focus on the next game.
“It cannot happen again. We have to focus on the next game and do much better.
“I am 100 per cent sure everybody is going to learn from this. When we look at ourselves in the mirror, I am sure it will not happen again.”
