Joe Hart will not be put off taking another penalty despite semi-final miss

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart will again put himself forward for penalty duty in the Scottish Cup final if required despite missing from the spot in the semi-final shoot-out win against Aberdeen.

The 36-year-old hit a post with Celtic’s fifth penalty following a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Dons at Hampden Park but then saved from Killian Phillips to secure a 6-5 shoot-out success and book a final against Rangers or Hearts next month for his last game before his retirement from football.

Brendan Rodgers’ side recovered from Bojan Miovski’s early goal to led through goals from Nicolas Kuhn and substitute James Forrest, before Dons substitute Ester Sokler levelled in the 90th minute.

Matt O’Riley restored Celtic’s lead in extra-time but stand-in Dons captain Angus MacDonald made amends for his horror mistake that led to Celtic’s equaliser when he headed home in the 119th minute.

Asked if he would take a penalty again, a bullish Hart said: “100 per cent. I always put myself forward.

“You need people with clarity of mind and people who are confident in what they are doing.

“That’s me, that sums me up as a player, I always put myself on the line but sometimes I miss.

“I’ve got a process. I was put forward and I was committed to my penalty. I just missed it.

“I fully back myself, my team backs me, my manager backs me. I would put my name forward again. I just pulled it too much.

“For once it pays off being a goalkeeper and I was able to try to reprieve myself.

“I have taken them in an under-21s tournament, I have taken them in plenty of pre-season games.

“I believe that I am a good penalty taker and I am gutted I didn’t score today but we got the win.

“I always do feel I am going to save one. I am a maniac when it comes to penalties. I always feel that I am going to save every penalty, I feel I am going to score every penalty.

“I don’t and I didn’t but luckily our penalties were top quality.

“The game was pretty wild, we just couldn’t put the game to bed but our penalties, bar myself, we were exceptional. I managed to save one.”
