Dundee’s Jordan McGhee hopes their last-gasp winner against Kilmarnock can be the catalyst for another successful campaign.
The versatile former Hearts player felt scoring late on last season was a crucial part of the process of finishing in the William Hill Premiership top six.
Skipper Joe Shaughnessy netted late winners at Livingston and Ross County which went a long way to launching their push up the table.
Dundee had only won once in nine matches before hosting Killie last Saturday, just four weeks after shipping a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 in a dramatic late turnaround against the same opponents.
And the tables were turned when Dundee came from two down to claim victory by the same scoreline courtesy of Ziyad Larkeche’s stoppage-time winner.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Aberdeen, McGhee said: “It was massive in terms of we’ve been on the end of a few difficult results in the last five to 10 minutes of games and to be on the flip side of that is positive for the dressing room and shows everyone that we’ve got a good fighting spirit about us and hopefully ready to kick on.
“We spoke about that in Monday’s debrief and referred back to last season. We had a lot of goals in the last few minutes. One off the top of my head was big Joe, Luke (McCowan)’s free-kick hit off the post and bounces in off his chest up in Ross County in the last minute. I think that really propelled us.
“We are looking for more of the same. It’s a new squad but now they have experienced that, hopefully we can hold on to that feeling, bottle it, and use it many more times this season.”
