Josh Taylor has said that he chose his new trainer with one eye on more titles and a place in boxing’s history books.
Taylor will face Thai boxer Apinun Khongsong at the SSE Hydro on May 2 in a mandatory defence of his IBF super-lightweight title.
The Prestonpans fighter added the WBA and Ring magazine belts when he defeated Regis Prograis in October in a high-profile fight that saw him win the Ali Trophy.
This time, Taylor will have a different face in his corner when he chose Ben Davison as his new trainer after splitting with Shane McGuigan.
He said that he believes Davison can help him sharpen up his defence and improve him but said that the decision was about ensuring his legacy.
“It was a big decision,” he said. “This next part of my career is the legacy part.
“It’s about planting my name in the history books.
“Picking a trainer was a massive choice so I took my time. I always knew that Ben Davison was one of my first choices.
“I went and had a session with him and made my mind up right away. We clicked straight away.
“I really feel that in the short time we’ve been together I’m flying, I’m buzzing.
“We’ve put in great work already and I can’t wait to put it into practice. We’ve got eight weeks left and I can’t wait to get going.”
