Kevin Clancy appointed as referee for Celtic v Rangers Premiership clash

Kevin Clancy has been announced as referee for Saturday’s Celtic v Rangers game as the team of officials was finalised for the Old Firm derby.

The Premiership’s top two meet in Glasgow’s east end in a match with nine points separating the sides in the table, and Celtic holding that clear advantage with just eight games left to play in the league.

Clancy will be the man tasked with keeping the peace and he’ll be joined by assistant referees David McGeachie and Ross Macleod. John Beaton is the fourth official at Celtic Park.

VAR duties will be carried out by Nick Walsh, with Daniel McFarlane assisting with the video review.

Rangers complained about referee Clancy in January 2022 after a fiery 1-1 draw with Aberdeen when Ryan Kent was sent off.

The Ibrox club submitted a list of eight specific incidents where they believe Clancy made the wrong call.

Clancy last took charge of an Old Firm derby in August 2021 when he oversaw a 1-0 win for Rangers at Ibrox.

Nick Walsh was the referee last time the sides met, when Celtic were 2-1 winners in the League Cup final at Hampden. The last league meeting between the teams was officiated by John Beaton as they played out a 2-2 draw at Hampden.

Walsh was also in charge for the first derby of the season, when Celtic were 4-0 winners at Parkhead.
