SNS GroupScotland boss Steve Clarke’s plans for the remaining Euro 2024 qualifiers have taken a blow after Kieran Tierney was ruled out with a significant hamstring injury.
The national team plays Spain next week in a vital Euro 2024 qualifier before playing France in a friendly five days later and the defender will not be part of the travelling squad. Tierney is set to face 8-12 weeks in recovery after tearing a muscle.
Tierney was injured in Real Sociedad’s 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and had to be substituted after just 25 minutes.
Manager Imanol Alguacil has revealed that the injury is “major” and that the player will spend a good amount time on the sidelines.
“He suffers a major muscle tear,” Alguacil said at his media conference ahead of the Champions League clash with Salzburg. “Nothing extraordinary either.
“Each player is different and so is the recovery time.
“It is the classic tear that will take him a while to recover from.”
Tierney is on loan at the Spanish side for the season after failing to get regular game time at Arsenal.
Scotland are just one point away from reaching Euro 2024 and currently lead their qualifying group.
