Kilmarnock forward Innes Cameron ruled out for up to eight weeks

Kilmarnock forward Innes Cameron has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with an injury.

The 23-year-old missed a part of last season with a hamstring injury and he is facing another lengthy spell out after picking up a knock in the warm up at Easter Road in their last game before the international break.

Manager Derek McInnes is hoping to have Kyle Vassell back in contention for their trip to Highlands to face Ross County this weekend.

The Rugby Park club are yet to win an away game this season and are looking to put that right at Dingwall on Saturday.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, McInnes said: “Innes Cameron took a sore on in the warm up at Easter Road and unfortunately it’s a quite bizarre injury that’s going to keep him out for six to eight weeks.

“It’s horrendous really, he’s just taken a shot at the end of the warm up, so it’s a bit of an unusual injury but it’s the hamstring that he’s had bother with before so that’s a blow for us.

“It’s so bizarre, it’s a similar injury he had from us warming up at Tynecastle last season, same hamstring but a different area of the hamstring this time and its probably not as severe, but it’s unusual in the sense that he’s done a full warm up and it was the last shot of the warm up.

“So there is a wee bit of investigation needing to go into that because it’s something that is a bit unusual.

“Kyle Vassell is still touch and go for the weekend having missed the game at Easter Road so we are obviously keen to get him back with us because he is such an important player for us.

“Even on that game, the amount of possession and penalty box opportunities we had he is someone who would have been vitally important for us in reversing the result.

“So we are giving him every chance to be on the bus with us up to Dingwall.”

Killie will be coming up against a new manager with Derek Adams ready to take charge of his first game since returning to Ross County as Malky Mackay’s replacement, but McInnes says it’s something he will be ready for.

He said: “We have been here before, we played Hibs in Nick Montgomery’s first game, it does affect your preparation in terms of what the opposition is and analyses the task ahead in terms of how they will set up.”
