Kilmarnock's entire squad isolating after Covid cases

Kilmarnock’s Premiership match against Motherwel tonight is set to be called off after a coronavirus outbreak.

The Rugby Park side have had six players test positive for Covid-19 in the past few days and their entire first-team squad is self-isolating.

That has put Friday night’s home match against the Steelmen in jeopardy with the authorities having talks to decide on the fixture.

Though the game is still on as things stand, it is expected that it will be called off after Scottish football’s Joint Response Group (JRG) and the SPFL hold meetings this afternoon.

If the decision is taken to call of the match, as is likely, a call will have to be made with either a postponement announced and a new date sought, or a forfeit declared, with Motherwell being handed a 3-0 win by default.

Kilmarnock are scheduled to play three other games within the next 15 days.

A JRG statement read: “NHS Ayrshire and Arran Test and Protect Team carried out Covid-19 contact tracing following the six confirmed positive tests at the club.

“As a result, the club has been advised by the local Problem Assessment Group that the whole playing squad should self-isolate for a 14-day period. This is in order to minimise the risk of further cases in the staff group and wider local community and to support Test and Protect.

“The SPFL Board are meeting this afternoon to discuss the implications for Kilmarnock’s fixtures within that period and will issue a statement thereafter.”
