Kilmarnock’s Premiership match against Motherwell on Friday night has been called off after the an outbreak of coronavirus at Rugby Park.
The Ayrshire side had confirmed six players had tested positive for Covid-19 and the remainder of the first team squad had been advised to self-isolate.
After discussions with the football authorities, government and health services, the decision has been taken to postpone Friday’s match and an investigation will take place into the circumstances.
A club statement read: “Kilmarnock Football Club can confirm that tonight’s Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell will not take place as scheduled.
“Six players in total have now tested positive and following discussions with NHS Ayrshire & Arran Public Health, the Scottish Government, East Ayrshire Council and the footballing authorities, our entire first-team squad have been advised to self-isolate until October 14.
“This is in order to minimise the risk of further cases in the player and other staff groups at the club, in the wider local community, and to support Test and Protect.
“The SPFL Board met this afternoon and agreed to our request to postpone the fixture and an investigation will now be carried out by the league around the circumstances leading to the postponement.”
A spokesman for the SPFL said: “No new date for this fixture has been set, pending the outcome of the SPFL investigation.”
