Kilmarnock striker Kyle Lafferty has been named as the Premiership Player of the Month for April.
Lafferty scored a hat-trick in his side’s 3-0 league win over Dundee United, as well as playing his part as Kilmarnock drew 2-2 with Ross County. The Northern Ireland international also scored four goals in the Scottish Cup last month.
The striker moved to Rugby Park in February as a free agent to join Tommy Wright’s side as they battle against relegation. Although Lafferty is only on a short-term contract until the end of the summer, Kilmarnock boss Wright has made it clear he would like to extend the player’s stay at the Ayrshire club.
Wright said last month that he didn’t believe any Scottish club had made a better signing outside of the transfer window.
“You find with strikers they can hit purple patches. Steven McLean hit purple patches for me,” he said.
“But for someone to come in and make that sort of impact in this sort of season, Kyle’s probably the best out of contract signing that I’ve made, and probably the best that’s been made in the last decade in Scotland, outwith the window.
“It’s not often that they do as well as Kyle has done.”
