Kyogo aiming for strong finish to season after netting 50th Celtic goal in title clincher

Kyogo Furuhashi helped Celtic clinch another title on Sunday by scoring a landmark goal in his Hoops career but he insists there will be no let up from him or his teammates in the remaining games.

The Japan forward scored the opener against Hearts in what was his 30th of the season and 50th since moving to Glasgow from the J-League in 2021.

But the 28-year-old, who is a doubt for next week’s game against Rangers after hurting his shoulder after the opening goal at Tynecastle, insists he is hungry for more as Celtic chase a treble and a string of club and national records.

Speaking to Celtic TV he said: “Throughout the 90 minutes it was a tough game but we worked hard and then we got the win and ended up winning the title, so I’m very happy.

“It means a lot to get 50 goals for Celtic, but the goal I got today was because of everyone’s hard work, so I’m very happy to score and to win the game.

“Our job is to see the happy faces of the supporters so I’m very glad to see the supporters’ happiness again.

“We still have other games so we go again for the last five games and hopefully we finish the season in a good way.”

Ange Postecoglou’s men travel across the city for the sixth Old Firm game of the season on Saturday, having won four and drew one of the previous five.

They then have St Mirren at home and Hibs away before finishing the league season against Aberdeen in Glasgow when the Premiership trophy will be delivered to Parkhead.

And despite wrapping the title up in the capital they are still aiming for a record points tally of 107 that will take them one ahead of the 106 recorded by Brendan Rodgers’ invincibles in 2017.

But they will need to win their remaining four league games to reach that total, before they finish their season against Inverness at Hampden in the Scottish Cup final when a historic eighth treble will be on the line.
