LASK to hold minute's silence for Celtic fan who died after falling ill at Celtic Park

A minute’s silence in tribute to a Celtic fan who died last week is to be held by LASK prior to the second leg of the Champions League play-off.

Emergency services were called to Celtic Park last Wednesday, during the club’s 3-0 victory against the Austrian side in the first leg of the Champions League play-off.

It comes after reports of a man taking ill within the stadium at around 9pm.

The 65-year-old was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he died shortly after. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

LASK contacted Celtic to arrange a minute’s silence in the man’s honour, prior to Tuesday night’s return leg fixture at the Raiffeisen Arena.

A Celtic statement read: “LASK has contacted Celtic to advise that they wish to observe a period of silence prior to tonight’s match in tribute to our supporter who fell ill and tragically passed away following last week’s first leg at Celtic Park.

“We send our thanks and appreciation to LASK.”
