Derek McInnes says league leaders Hearts are “starting to annoy people” as they remain ahead of the pack in the Premiership.

The Jambos face off with second-placed Rangers at Ibrox this weekend, looking to extend their five-point gap at the top.

McInnes says doubters expected his side to fall off the summit of the league, but believes his squad continue to overachieve.

They have lost just one game of their last seven league outings.

He said: “From the outset, it was people looking at us in September saying ‘good old Hearts, top of the league, good on them’.

“We were still getting a lot of plaudits in October and November.

“Now we’re still there, we’re starting to annoy a few people, and a lot of people naturally thought we would have fallen away by now.

“We are overachieving. I’m just enjoying where we are, and there are big challenges ahead.

“I don’t see anyone in the dressing room not enjoying it and we have to keep it going.”

On the injury front, McInnes confirmed Cammy Devlin is aiming for a return to action at the end of this month, while skipper Lawrence Shankland could be back for the final weekend in March.

Stephen Kingsley, however, is facing a setback and will be out for another five weeks.
