Scotland can use pre-Euros friendlies to bring back 'feelgood' factor

Ferguson came off the bench during the first half of the defeat to Northern Ireland.

Lewis Ferguson says that Scotland have a chance to bring back the “feelgood” factor to the squad by winning their remaining two friendly matches before they go to Germany.

Steve Clarke’s men are currently without a win in their last seven games following Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Northern Ireland at Hampden.

They won’t have a chance to put that right until early June when they take on Finland and Gibraltar before heading out to the European Championships.

And the former Aberdeen midfielder, who now stars for Serie A side Bologna, insists a couple of good performances in those games can help set them up for their group matches against the hosts, Switzerland and Hungary as they look to become the first Scotland side to reach the knockout stages of a major tournament.

Speaking after Tuesday night’s defeat he said: “It was frustrating, not quite the levels that we have reached or the standards that we have set ourselves, but we just have to dust ourselves down now and look forward to the summer and take any positives we can take from the last week.

“To be fair Northern Ireland defended really well, I though they were good for the full game and we kind of knew the game was going to be like that and we would have to be creative to create chances and it was difficult to do that.

“We have another two friendlies before we go to Germany, and I think it’s two games that we should go and win and get that good feeling around the place again and get a bit of positivity because we are going to need it going in to the Euros.

“So if we can get good results in those two games and put in good performances and can help get that feelgood factor that will do us the world of good.”
