Lewis Miller is confident Hibernian can build on Thursday’s rousing victory over Lucerne by notching their first cinch Premiership points away to Motherwell on Sunday.

The Australian defender said there was a “beautiful mood in the camp” after Hibs claimed a 3-1 first-leg advantage over their Swiss opponents in their Europa Conference League third qualifying round tie.

Now Miller hopes they can maintain the feelgood factor with victory at Fir Park after suffering a 3-2 home defeat by St Mirren in their league opener last weekend.

“I don’t think it’s difficult to adjust our focus back to the league in such a short space of time,” he told Hibs TV.

“With the players we have and the experience in the team, guys like Paul Hanlon, Lewis Stevenson and Joe Newell can help get us in the right headspace and mindset. Our pure focus is on Motherwell.

“We were unfortunate last week but I think we’re ready to bounce back and get our first league win.

“You always want to get three points. We had a bit of a rocky start but coming off Thursday’s game, after a great win, I feel we’re in the right frame of mind to go and get a win for ourselves and the fans.”

Motherwell finished seventh last season after a strong finish under Stuart Kettlewell moved them away from the relegation zone. The Steelmen kicked off the current campaign with a 1-1 draw at Dundee.

Miller is braced for another tough test in what he has found to be a fiercely-competitive division since arriving from his homeland just over a year ago.

“Motherwell will be physical and I’m assuming quite direct,” he said. “They’ve added a few new signings and I feel like the competition in this league is improving all the time. We’re going to have to be ready for them.”
