Liam Scales says Adam Idah’s return to Celtic would be welcomed by the players, as Celtic look to sign the striker on a permanent deal.
Idah was an important player for the champions after joining on loan from Norwich City for the second half of last season, scoring vital goals as the team won the Premiership title, and netting the winner in the Scottish Cup final.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been keen to see Idah return to the club but Norwich say they rejected a bid earlier this week.
While Scales admits the players have no say in transfer signings, he made it clear that Idah would be welcomed as the team’s latest recruit.
“We would love to have him back,” the defender said. “He’s a great lad.
“He’s obviously a brilliant player but to have him in the changing room as well is brilliant.
“He’s a good guy and he’s funny and we all got on well with him.
“He was massive for us. He scored massive goals and put in massive performances.
“We would love him back but obviously it’s out of our control. Hopefully it happens.”
The defender feels that the Republic of Ireland international offers a different type of threat to Kyogo Furuhashi and says his teammates appreciate the qualities he can bring to the team.
“He’s obviously different to Kyogo,” Scales said. “Kyogo is an amazing, brilliant player but Adam’s got more physicality.
“Kyogo is better playing off people’s shoulders and has scored loads of goals doing that but Adam gives you that sort of option where you can hit his feet and he can hold off the big Scottish defenders that he’s playing against.
“It’s a great outlet for centre halves like me, or centre midfielders, that they can play into him and then get the creative players playing off him as well.
“That’s probably a strength that he brings, apart from the goals he scores.”
