Livingston defender Sean Kelly is delighted to be back from injury and insists his focus is fully on St Johnstone at the weekend.

Wednesday’s 4-0 defeat against Rangers in the Viaplay Cup quarter-finals marked a return to the starting line-up for Kelly.

The 29-year-old made his cinch Premiership comeback as a substitute in the 3-0 loss at home to Celtic last weekend but Kelly says he is improving every day.

“Fitness-wise (I’m) obviously not 100 per cent perfect, being the first game, but I’m delighted to be back,” he said ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Saints.

“It felt as the (Rangers) game went on I grew personally stronger and the team grew stronger until the second goal, which obviously came at our best spell in the game.”

Having lost to Celtic and Rangers in the past week, the Lions’ attention now turns to the Premiership, where they face the winless St Johnstone, who sit at the foot of the table.

Livi are only two spots above the Saints having only won one game this season and Kelly knows how tough Saturday’s game will be.

He said: “I think we know what to expect going to St Johnstone, when we go there it’s always going to be a difficult game, I don’t imagine it’s going to be necessarily the prettiest game people have watched, just going off pure stereotypes.

“It’s going to be difficult, it’s a massive game even this early in the season given the way the league table’s shaping up already.

“These are the games where seasons are going to be made against teams that are in and about us.

“Obviously you can take the Rangers and Celtic games in isolation, but if you’re going to have a decent season these are the games where we need to win.”
