Dundee manager Tony Docherty revealed midfielder Lyall Cameron is doubtful for Saturday evening’s match at home to his future employers Rangers.
The Dark Blues boss spoke on Tuesday about how he expected the 22-year-old to be fully committed when the two teams meet at Dens Park this weekend for the first time since it was announced in early February that he had agreed a pre-contract with the Ibrox club.
However, it emerged in Dundee’s pre-match media briefing on Thursday afternoon that the academy graduate is now struggling with an injury.
“Lyall picked up a wee injury in Tuesday’s training, just at the end of the session, and he’s getting sent for a scan this afternoon, so we’ll see what comes back from that,” said Docherty. “We don’t know how serious it is at the moment.”
Asked how big a blow it would be if Cameron is not able to play, Docherty said: “It’s always a blow when your best players are not available.
“We don’t know that yet, we’ll see the result of his scan but I’m often asked that question about Lyall Cameron. You want your best players in the team.
“But there’s somebody there to deputise if Lyall doesn’t make it. Young Fin Robertson, for example, is champing at the bit, Cesar Garza is just back from international duty, so we’ve got players ready to take the opportunity if that is the case.
“We’ll wait and see what the result is of that scan.”
Docherty revealed defender Billy Koumetio is back “in contention” for Saturday’s match after three months out with an ankle injury.
