Lyndon Dykes has withdrawn from the Scotland squad set to face Armenia in Wednesday’s Nations League opener after picking up a muscle injury in the World Cup qualifying play-off defeat to Ukraine.
The 26-year-old, who was substituted at half-time during the 3-1 loss at Hampden, is reported to have sustained a quad injury.
A replacement for the Queens Park Rangers forward is yet to be announced ahead of a busy schedule for Steve Clarke’s side featuring three games in the space of six days.
Armenia surprised the Republic of Ireland in their first Group B1 fixture on Saturday with a 1-0 win in Yerevan.
Eduard Spertsyan’s second-half effort from range ended Ireland’s eight-game unbeaten run – less than three months after the hosts were thrashed 9-0 by Norway in their previous fixture.
Scotland go to Dublin next Saturday in between the home meeting with Armenia and an away trip to the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium the following Tuesday.
Che Adams, who started alongside Dykes against Ukraine, Ryan Christie, who replaced him from the bench, Jacob Brown and the uncapped Ross Stewart are the remaining forwards in the current squad.
