Legendary Scotland forward Denis Law has died at the age of 84.
Manchester United, the club he spent 11 years at as a player, confirmed the news on Friday evening.
Law remains the joint-record goal-scorer for Scotland with 30 goals from 55 caps.
He started his career with Huddersfield Town and had two spells with Manchester City as well as a year in Italy with Torino.
But he is most fondly remembered for his time at Old Trafford where he won the European Cup, FA Cup and two league titles and formed a formidable partnership with George Best and Bobby Charlton.
He is also the only Scot to win the prestigious Ballon D’or award when he was named the best player in Europe in 1964.
The Law family said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.
“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to his wellbeing and care, past and much more recently.
“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”
