Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed Scott Arfield is to have a scan on his ankle but can’t yet say if the midfielder will be forced to miss the derby against Celtic.
Arfield was helped off the pitch during Saturday’s 1-0 win against Hibernian after going to ground in a collision with Melker Hallberg.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitted his concerns about the seriousness of the damage in his post-match interview and McAllister admitted the club still didn’t have clarity on the extent of the injury.
“It is obviously difficult to find a facility to get a scan for Scotty (because of the time of year) but he is en route as we speak,” McAllister said. “We’re just waiting for the results to come back.
“It’s quite rare to see Scotty lie down on a pitch and be carried off as he’s generally very robust, so it was pretty disappointing to see him come off the pitch the way he did. But we’re hopeful that the scan will show up better than how it first looked.”
Arfield will definitely miss Wednesday’s match against St Mirren in Paisley but he may also be ruled out of Saturday’s derby at Ibrox.
“We’ll wait purely for the results of the scan (before deciding how long he will be out),” McAllister said. “That’s the position we’re in.”
