Minute's applause to be held before Scotland vs Ukraine in memory of the Queen

A minute’s applause in tribute to Queen Elizabeth will be held at Hampden before the Scotland vs Ukraine game.

Steve Clarke’s men host the Ukrainians on Wednesday in the first of a Nations League triple header that will also see them take on Republic of Ireland in Glasgow.

Following that they will travel to Krakow in Poland to play Ukraine again next week as they look to top the League B Group One table.

The SFA confirmed on Tuesday that they will hold the minute’s applause in memory of the late monarch whose funeral was held on Monday.

Tributes have been held at football stadiums throughout the UK with some deciding on an applause and others on a minute of silence.

The decision to hold an applause at Hampden was made following discussions with the game’s governing body.

A statement released on the Scotland national team’s social media pages said: “Following discussions with UEFA, we can confirm that there will be a minute’s applause ahead of our match against Ukraine, in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Several supporters have used the tributes as an opportunity to voice their disapproval of the monarchy with Celtic fans disrupting a minute’s applause held before their game at St Mirren on Sunday with chants of “If you hate the Royal Family clap your hands”.

Dundee United fans disrupted a silence held at Ibrox before their game against Rangers and Hibs fans also hijacked a tribute before their game against Aberdeen with anti-monarchy chants.

Ukraine are currently top of the group on seven points with Scotland a point behind in second place.

The Republic of Ireland are in third on four points with Armenia bottom of the table on three.
