Edinburgh Monarchs have said it is “business as usual” for the speedway club despite the demolition of Armadale Stadium being approved in principle.
Monarchs have been racing at Armadale since 1997 but questions have been raised about the club’s plans after stadium owner William Cochrane submitted plans to build 80 houses on the site.
West Lothian Council has granted planning permission in principle but detailed plans would have to be submitted if construction was to go ahead.
Monarchs co-promoter, John Campbell has reassured fans that there is no imminent problem for the club.
“This application has rumbled on for a long period now,” Campbell said.
“The application was originally submitted back in June 2016 and it is just a week short of two years since a local councillor announced on Facebook that the council was minded to grant permission.
“We’ve been kept fully up to date by the stadium owners of their plans and we see the stadium being available to us for the foreseeable future.”
Stadium owner Mr Cochrane also said there was no immediate threat to the stadium.
He said: “We needed to protect our interest in the stadium site and that is why we submitted the planning application.
“Now that the application has been granted I have spoken to the speedway club and confirmed that we are a million per cent behind the continuation of speedway at Armadale Stadium.”
