Morelos goal gives Rangers 1-0 win over Lech Poznan

Rangers have beaten Lech Poznan 1-0 in their Europa League Group D match.

A second-half goal from Alfredo Morelos was the difference between the sides at Ibrox.

The result puts Steven Gerrard’s side in second place in their group, behind Benfica on goal difference before the back-to-back games against the Portuguese side.

Gerrard range the changes ahead of the match, bringing in Borna Barisic, Leon Balogun, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Kemar Roofe.

The home side started brightly and Arfield had an early strike before Roofe was picked out by Barisic but was only able to head the ball up before an overhead kick that lacked power.

Steven Davis has two shots as Rangers pushed for an opener and Mikael Ishak served a reminder of Lech’s danger when he shot over the bar. Neither side could find a breakthrough in the first half.

Just after the hour mark Morelos was introduced from the bench and his energy added to Rangers’ threat. On 68 minutes he scored the goal that settled the game.

Barisic made a run down the left and delivered a perfect cross that the Colombian seized, heading powerfully into the back of the net from six yards.

Morelos had another shot before Lech turned up the heat as they searched for a leveller. The Polish side didn’t seriously threaten and Rangers enjoyed dangerous counters but a solid defence saw them see the match out and take all three points.
