Motherwell come back from two down to beat Dundee and keep top-six hopes alive

Motherwell have kept their hopes of sneaking into the top-six alive after coming back from two goals down to beat Dundee at Dens Park.

Moses Ebiye’s stoppage-time strike helped the Steelmen complete a stunning 3-2 win after the Premiership game was given the go-ahead following a second pitch inspection.

The state of the Dundee surface has been under intense scrutiny amid heavy rainfall in Scotland, and with the Dark Blues having had four home games postponed due to a waterlogged pitch this term.

After an 11am pitch inspection proved inconclusive, the match referee passed the surface fit for play two hours later with the game set to start at 3pm as planned.

When the action got under way, Jordan McGhee and Luke McCowan scored either side of half-time to hand the hosts the advantage.

Although Theo Bair’s penalty was saved, Georgie Gent fired home from the rebound to pull one back for the Well in the 79th minute.

Bair made up for his penalty mistake with a goal to level for the visitors just two minutes later before Ebiye snatched three points at the death.

Motherwell now need to beat Hibs next week and hope Dundee to lose their next two games, against Rangers and Aberdeen, to seal a top-half finish.

Only one point separates Dundee and Hibernian in the table, meaning the latter’s hopes of a top-six finish are also still alive even though they were beaten 2-1 by St Johnstone.
