Motherwell have launched an investigation after a player was racially abused online following the club’s clash with Celtic on Sunday.
The Steelmen lost 3-1 to the league leaders, however, after the match the club confirmed they were probing reports of racist abuse directed towards right-back Marvin Kaleta on social media.
They confirmed that the relevant authorities had been informed and efforts were being made to identify the individual.
A statement from the club read: “The club is aware of the racist abuse towards a Motherwell player on social media this afternoon.
“We will investigate this fully and will work with authorities to identify the individual.
“Motherwell Football Club condemns any form of racist abuse towards anyone. This kind of behaviour has no place in football or society.”
Celtic and Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
