Motherwell sign Pape Souare as former Crystal Palace defender signs short term contract Motherwell FC

Motherwell have completed the signing of former Senegal international Pape Souare on a short-term deal.

The 33-year-old joins on a six-month contract after leaving English League One side Morecambe at the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Souare, who has 26 caps for his country, was an FA Cup runner up with Crystal Palace in 2016 when the London club were beaten by Manchester United and made over 50 Ligue 1 appearances with Lille.

His career was derailed for a year as a result of serious injuries sustained in a car crash while under contract at Selhurst Park in 2017.

The left back also represented Troyes and Charlton Athletic and will add experience to manager Stuart Kettlewell’s squad.

“Pape has played at a really high level and with that, comes experience,” he told the club’s website.

“It’s no secret that we need cover in the wide areas, so when the opportunity arose to get Pape on board, we jumped at it.”

Souare becomes the Steelmen’s third signing of the window after strikers Jon Obika and Conor Wilkinson.

He said: “It’s great to be here.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the group, who have been excellent with me so far.

“I want to impress from the off so I’m looking forward to getting my head down and getting started.”
