The Battle of the Brits tennis tournament which was set to take place in Aberdeen next week has been postponed.
Tournament director Jamie Murray and his organising team made the decision in the face of rising numbers of coronavirus cases, and intend to reschedule for 2022.
The exhibition event was first held in 2020 and sees the best male players in Scotland go up against rivals from south of the border.
Andy and Jamie Murray were both set to play, with Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans among the other star players taking part.
Jamie Murray said: “Obviously this is incredibly disappointing for all of us organising the event, for the players and, most importantly, for the fans who wanted to come and watch us.”
On Thursday, Andy Murray had said that he was looking forward to returning to Scotland for the event, believing at that point that the matches would still be going ahead.
He said: “As far as I’m aware it’s still going ahead but obviously it changes daily as to what the guidance is and what is and isn’t allowed.
“Certainly it’s very concerning what’s happening at home just now, the number of cases. It’s rising unbelievably quickly. There’s lots of people that I know that have had the virus recently or have just caught it, which was not really the case with the first couple of waves.
“If they change the guidelines and fans are not allowed then that’s obviously a decision that my brother and the people organising the event would have to take.”
