Naismith eyes productive partnership with Boyce at Hearts

Steven Naismith believes he can strike up a dangerous partnership with new signing Liam Boyce after the pair combined to defeat Rangers on Sunday.

Boyce signed for the club of Saturday and manager Daniel Stendel put him straight into the team to face Steven gerrard’s side at Tynecastle the following day.

He got his reward when he saw Boyce set up Naismith for the equaliser and then fire in the winner.

Naismith said he immediately felt that they could complement each other in attack and that the combination could help the side in their bid to avoid relegation.

“With (some) players you get that natural instinct,” he told Hearts TV. “He anticipates if I’m going to flick one on, if I’m going to play it around the corner and I know when it’s going round the corner he’s going to hold it which gives you the confidence to go again or make a different run.

“It’s always a good sign when that happens, when there is a natural understanding but it’s one game.

“We need to make it a good run of games and get ourselves out of the bottom of the table.

“We’ve got another two games coming up which we expect to go out and play the same way and get the same results.

“That’s got to be the plan. If we can get ourselves in a good position and everybody enjoys it – and I would say that the boys are looking forward to going into games now rather than having a wee bit of nervousness about them – we’re in a good place.”
