Nectarios Triantis keen to win silverware during Hibernian loan spell

New Hibernian loan signing Nectarios Triantis has targeted more silverware with Nick Montgomery after reuniting with his former Central Coast Mariners boss.

Triantis is one of two 20-year-old centre-backs to join Hibs on loan on the final day of the transfer window along with Bournemouth’s Owen Bevan.

The Australia Under-23 international won the A-League title with Mariners before joining Sunderland and has made three first-team appearances for the Wearside club.

“The team, the gaffer, the way that Hibs play were all big parts of my reason to come here,” he told Hibs TV.

“I know a lot about how the team play through my time in Australia playing under Monty and Sergio (Raimundo).

“I had an amazing time at Central Coast, it was my debut season playing professional football, so to win silverware in that year was amazing and it has given me that hunger to achieve more.

“The gaffer and I spoke together and he showed me his visualisation for the rest of the season. Of course, we want to try to win the Scottish Cup and do as well as we can in the league between now and the end of the season.”

Bevan’s arrival came days after Hibs were given approval by the Scottish Football Association to progress with a significant investment from Bournemouth’s owners, led by Bill Foley.

Montgomery said: “Our relationship with Bournemouth allowed us to look closely at their young players, and Owen was one that stood out instantly.

“Having watched him during his loan spell at Cheltenham Town earlier this season, I was really keen to try and bring him in for the second half of this season. After a muscle injury saw him return to Bournemouth, discussions between the two clubs were ongoing and we were able to get the deal done.

“Owen is a young centre-back with great attributes and a fantastic attitude. He can play either side as a centre-back and at right-back, which provides us with great depth and competition for places.”

The Wales Under-21 international had earlier loan spells with Truro and Yeovil.

“My first loan spell was when I was 17 and I don’t think there’s any better experience than playing men’s football regularly, especially as a centre-back when you’re up against big, strong men,” he told Hibs TV.

“My time at Cheltenham was a good, in really competitive league. We were fighting at the bottom end of the table, so that meant I was defending constantly all game.

“It’ll be a different challenge here at Hibs, but I think all of those spells have prepared me for coming here.”
