Neil Lennon 'livid' over Bolingoli's trip to Spain

Neil Lennon has cast doubt on Boli Bolingoli’s future after the Celtic defender decided to go “rogue”.

The defender breached quarantine rules by travelling to Spain and failing to self-isolate for 14 days on his return as he instead took to the field against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

As a consequence, Celtic and Aberdeen – who have eight players self-isolating at the moment – have seen their next two Premiership games called off.

Celtic and Bolingoli have issued separate apologies following the incident, with the club blasting the player’s “stupidity”.

Lennon, however, said he was in no mood to hear any excuses from the left-back and said it will be “very difficult” for Bolingoli to have a future at Parkhead.

He said: “We played Hamilton opening game of the season, we gave the players a couple of days off and we made it clear they were not to leave Glasgow.

“Unbeknown to us Boli took a flight to Spain on Monday and flew back in on Tuesday… one day in Spain… what is the logic in that?

“He then decided to keep it to himself and trained all week, put everybody at risk in the bubble we’ve created here.

“He played on Sunday, put everybody at risk, even the Kilmarnock players and staff.

“The story broke yesterday and he came clean. We were absolutely livid, appalled.

“The club has been at the forefront of maintaining good practice and protocols to get the game back up and running and we’ve been bitterly let down by the selfish actions of one individual.”

He continued: “I didn’t want to hear his excuse. We made it in no uncertain terms nobody could travel, certainly not leave the country.

“He’s blatantly disregarded mine and the club’s instructions and put everything in jeopardy.”

Celtic’s games against St Mirren and Aberdeen have now been called off following the breach.

Asked if Bolingoli now faced the sack, Lennon said: “That will be a club decision, we will deal with the disciplinary action in the strongest possible terms.

“There is anger, frustration… it’s just simply not good enough.

“This is a rogue, he has basically gone off tangent and decided to do something very, very selfish.”
