Nick Montgomery has defended Scottish football as he refuted claims by Derek Adams regarding the standards in the top flight.
The Hibs manager cited the three results for Scottish clubs in Europe last week as evidence that it’s a lot better than it gets credits for.
After Ross County lost to Dundee at the weekend Adams hit out and says the standard in the top flight is “shocking”.
But Montgomery has been impressed by what he’s seen so far during his time in Scotland and says wins for Celtic over Feyenoord in the Champions League, Aberdeen over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Conference League just days after the Bundesliga side beat Bayern Munich 5-1 and Rangers over Real Betis in Spain that secured a Europa League last-16 spot, proves his point.
He said: “I can’t really agree with [Derek Adams] comments but he’s entitled to his opinion.
“I think it’s a real competitive league. I think every week you’re playing against different teams that have different playing styles, some quite similar.
“But I think the standard is very good. You only have to look at the the three Scottish clubs in Europe last week and I think that tells its own story.”
Hibs play Ross County on Saturday as they look to get back to winning ways after falling to defeat against St Johnstone at the weekend.
