Nicolas Raskin will not be in the Rangers squad to face Hearts on Saturday following talks with head coach Russell Martin, STV understands.

The Ibrox side face a huge match against Derek McInnes’ Hearts this weekend as they search for their first league win after a difficult start, but they will not be calling on the services of the 24-year-old Belgian.

The midfielder was left out of the squad to face Celtic last month and has not been a regular starter under the new Rangers boss, despite being a stand-out performer last season.

That’s led to questions being asked about his future at Ibrox, though Martin denied there had been a breakdown in relationship.

Some supporters have been infuriated by his absence from the starting line-up for important games, while Martin himself said in the aftermath of the 6-0 defeat against Club Brugge that Raskin was one of several players with “uncertainty” around his future with the club.

Raskin’s dad also took to social media to heavily criticise Martin, questioning why experienced players from last year’s European campaign, including his son, were left out of crucial games.

The midfielder remained at Rangers following the closure of the Scottish transfer window, though some countries are still able to buy players.

After being left out of the derby against Celtic, which finished 0-0 to leave Rangers winless in the Premiership after four matches, Raskin departed for international duty with Belgium and scored for his country in the 6-0 win over Kazakhstan on Sunday.

While in Belgium, an interview was published with Dutch language media outlet Voetbalkrant where he said his position was “complicated” but that he had no intention of leaving Rangers.

“My situation at the club is complicated,” he said. “I will return, work hard, and try to get playing time again.

“But it’s not just up to me. I know this is an important year, and I absolutely want to be part of this campaign with Belgium.

“Football is simply a game of ups and downs. I absolutely love Rangers.

“I’ve had some great moments there and have a strong bond with the fans. I always try to give my all.

“A transfer? No, that’s out of the question. I want to continue to resolve this at the club.”

Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell also gave an interview last week where

On his return to Glasgow he met with Martin but remains out of the first team picture, with the head coach expected to face questions on the relationship at his media conference on Friday.
