Jimmy Thelin is intent on keeping a cool head as Aberdeen bid to ensure they emerge stronger from the summer transfer window.

The Dons boss has already made additions, but Monday’s William Hill Premiership defeat at Hearts has left supporters fearing they are not adequately equipped for the campaign.

Thelin, however, remains optimistic that patience will pay off.

“As I always say in the windows, you can’t control exactly what happens, but we have a lot of people working hard to always try to improve the squad,” he said. “What happens is difficult to say exactly.

“Our aim is always to get better every window and every season. There’s still progress that we’re trying to make in every window.

“I think it is always challenging, but you also want to grow in some part with training with the players you have, and then find some specific players.

“Sometimes you need recruitment also to help the team to get better but we need to recruit the players who we think can do an (important job) here for some years.

“But depending on injuries and maybe other different reasons, sometimes you have short-term solutions like a loan, for example. But let’s see how the window will end.”

Asked if he was frustrated with the way the window is going, the mild-mannered Swede said: “No. I think everybody is so aligned with what we want to do and it has to be the right player, not just a player.

“We know what we’re trying to do and we have to find the right profiles, and also how we build the squad.

“If you work in this business, it’s not frustration. You know it’s a difficult market, and everybody tries to do the best we can do.

“We’re trying to nail the things we want to happen, and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, and then you move on, and you always have an optimistic mindset and try to do the best you can do.”

Thelin’s plans have not been helped by the fact German left-back Emmanuel Gyamfi, who joined from Schalke in June, is out until at least September with a leg injury.

“It was nothing that we planned for, but it happened, and now we have to support the player to come back,” said Thelin.

“Imagine yourself, you sign for a new club and you’re looking forward to playing. The medical team is doing a lot and we also try to support him, so he feels like he’s got the right energy.”
