Norwich City have told STV they have received an offer from Celtic for Adam Idah – but say they’ve rejected the bid.
Idah impressed on loan at Celtic in the second half of last season, helping the club to win the league and cup double.
The champions want to sign the 23-year-old permanently and have made their move but the Championship club are keen to keep Idah, who has four years left on his contract.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers made it clear that he wanted to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent basis and help him to develop in Glasgow. He said at the end of the season that Idah had been “immense” and was “clearly” a player he wanted to continue to work with.
Celtic had no option to buy the Republic of Ireland international at the end of his loan spell so Idah returned to Carrow Road, with new Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup keen to assess all his options.
It’s understood the English Championship side received an offer from Celtic in the last 48 hours but officially rejected the bid on Wednesday.
Idah played 19 games for Celtic in the second half of the season, scoring nine times, including a late winner in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers.
Following that game, Rodgers talked up the striker’s qualities, saying: “He’s been the real catalyst for us
“I knew what I was getting, he’s fast and dynamic and has strength.
“What he’s shown since coming in is he is a goalscorer. Great headers, great movement in the box.
“He’s been absolutely immense for us and he’s clearly someone I would like to do something with.”
