John McGinn says he’s over the moon with his first Scotland goal at a World Cup.
And while the Aston Villa midfielder knows his 28th-minute strike against Haiti wasn’t award-winning, it gave Scotland a crucial first win in Group C.
McGinn latched on to a save from the Haiti keeper after a period of Scotland pressure, and the deflected effort sliced into the net to send the thousands of Tartan Army fans in the stadium wild.
The Scots sit on top of the group, ahead of rivals Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.

McGinn said: “It’s crazy. It wasn’t my best goal, but who cares? It’s been a long time coming. Absolutely unbelievable. I scuffed it a wee bit.
“Haiti are a decent team, by the way. They played New Zealand off the pitch, Peru as well, and tonight we had to work hard for it.
“Could we have played a bit better, aye, but it was a must-win, and we won. Absolutely over the moon.
“We’ve been through a lot of hurt as a country, a generation of supporters have never seen this.
“The pride on my face this morning seeing all the kids going to parks in their Scotland kit, painting their face, hopefully when they get up tomorrow they’ll be absolutely beaming with pride, cause I am.
“What a win, and it sets us up for Friday.”
