Paul McGinn will take a poor performance if it means a return to winning ways

Paul McGinn will gladly forego plaudits for cinch Premiership points when Motherwell host Celtic on Saturday.

Stuart Kettlewell’s side have had a terrific start to the season but have lost their last two games against St Mirren and Rangers, albeit both by a single goal and with the Steelmen doing more than enough to take something from both encounters.

Next up is current champions and cinch Premiership leaders Celtic and McGinn will accept a poor performance if it comes with three points.

The former Partick Thistle, St Mirren and Hibernian defender said: “It is frustrating because we played so well and there is plenty chances in both games.

“It is not as if we are playing nice football and going nowhere. We are actually making chances. It is just the way it goes.

“I am sure we have ground out a few results this season when we have not been as good.

“I will take us absolutely stinking the place out on Saturday and a win for us.

“A lot of teams think it is a free hit. We don’t really see it that way, especially them coming here.

“As a (opposition) player I always found it tough coming here and I hope Celtic find it the same.

“I haven’t seen all that much of Celtic this season, I know they have had injuries in key areas, their two main centre halves, and Reo Hatate was missing but they still grind out results, don’t they? They still find a way to win.

“It doesn’t matter who you get on the pitch, it is going to be tough.”
