Pedro Martinez Losa insists he remains committed to Scotland after a 2-0 play-off defeat in Finland saw them fail to reach Euro 2025.

There was all to play for after a goalless first leg at Easter Road but Finnish defender Natalia Kuikka gave the home side the lead in the eighth minute with a stunning strike from distance in the Bolt Arena with Nea Lehtola netting a second after 28 minutes for a 2-0 aggregate win.

Martinez Losa was appointed boss in July 2021 and his current contract takes him to 2027 but after another qualifying failure – Scotland last reached a major tournament in 2019 – questions will be asked of the Spaniard.

But he told the BBC: “I am committed to this group and committed to the development of the players.

“What I can control is my commitment to the players – all the opinions and decisions, I don’t control them.

“I signed a contract, I have a commitment to the staff and the players, there’s no reason not to continue.”

Martinez Losa felt his side should have had a penalty for handball when they were 2-0 down.

He said: “They (Finland) have a good record of winning games here and two big moments in the game cost us.

“I thought after that the team played excellently. If you score a goal all of a sudden it can change. I respect the referee and the VAR but I think we should have had a penalty. I think one goal would have changed the game.”

Scotland captain Caroline Weir said that the game came down to “a couple of moments that weren’t in our favour”.

She said: “The team couldn’t have done much more. Unfortunately we’ve not done enough, it’s a really tough one to take.

“It’s really hard to digest at the moment, it wasn’t our night tonight. We’ve worked so hard in the last couple of years to be in this position and unfortunately we couldn’t take that final step tonight.

“The players have worked so hard but it wasn’t enough.”
