Philippe Clement admits his Rangers side need to start scoring more goals and says having more attacking options will help them be more lethal in the coming weeks.
With the likes of Danilo getting closer to full fitness, Hamza Igamane continuing to improve and Yanis Hagi returning to the squad, the Ibrox boss says he is hoping to have more firepower available to him during a hectic run of fixtures over the next two months than he has had in the opening weeks of the season.
Following on from their impressive 4-1 away Europa League win over Nice, the Gers struggled to find a way past St Johnstone on Sunday until a Jason Holt own-goal secured a 1-0 victory.
With only 18 goals scored in the league this season, Clement is aware that they need to improve in that area quickly.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he said, “We have to score more goals. I think that is a major one. We don’t concede much, but we have to score more goals and be more lethal in the final third.
“With the players available we are looking at ways to create this, of course we have had several important offensive players missing.
“Danilo, who was not available for a long time, is coming back now, Yanis (Hagi) is also giving us other options, Hamza (Igamane) is taking really good steps.
“I think just one month ago, a lot of people were still asking why we had bought a Moroccan guy who doesn’t have any experience at this level. They are starting to see now why we brought him in, but he still needs to take more steps in the next couple of months.
“So we are starting to get more options in attack, and that is crucial in a club that plays as many games as Rangers.
“We now have 16 games in the next eight weeks, so it will be important to have rotation in those positions.
“But it is also important to always have quality players on the pitch in the attacking areas as that is crucial to getting good results.”
Rangers return to Ibrox to take on Kilmarnock in the Premiership on Thursday night.
