Postecoglou takes 'great pride' from continued Celtic success after League Cup win over Rangers

Ange Postecoglou says he takes “great pride” in following on from other successful Celtic managers after winning his third trophy in Scotland.

The Hoops lifted the League Cup for the sixth time in the last seven years after a 2-1 win over Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.

But the Australian says he knew that’s what would be expected of him when he was appointed to the manager’s role a year and a half ago.

Speaking after the final victory he said: “That’s the expectations when you’re at this football club.

“I’m doing interviews with Gordon Strachan, you know how hard it is following guys like that and Martin and Brendan and Neil Lennon?

“This club is steeped in success. So when you take the job, you know that’s your responsibility. But it doesn’t diminish the achievement.

“I think we still celebrate the fact, we don’t take it for granted that you just roll up in a Celtic shirt and it’s given to you. You’ve got to earn it and we earnt it.

“And I think what’s the greatest thing for me is that everything we’ve got in the last sort of eighteen months since I’ve been here, a bit longer now is, you know, we’ve earned through hard work and a real belief within the group.

“And so, again, I take great pride in that.”

Kyogo Furuhashi scored twice with a goal at either end of half-time before Alfredo Morelos pulled one back for Rangers.
